Homemade Oat Milk
Ingredients
- 2 cups old fashioned oats
- 8 cups cold filtered water
- Pinch of fine sea salt
- 1-2 tbsp. date syrup, maple syrup or your preferred sweetener (optional)
Directions
Place the oats in a medium bowl and cover with cold water. Let sit for 20 minutes. Drain and rinse until the water runs clear.
In a high power blender, such as a Vitamix, combine all of the ingredients. Make sure the water is cold as this helps keep the milk from becoming slimy.
Starting on low, slowly raise the speed to high and blend the mixture for about 30 seconds. You don't want to over blend or break the oats down too much as this will make them gummy and slimy.
Pour the milk through a nutmilk bag or fine mesh strainer lined with a cheesecloth into a clean bowl. Pour into bottles or jars and keep in the fridge for about a week.
Use in coffee or tea, pour over granola or add to your smoothie.
